EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

Secretariat of Public Education (SEP)
Colegio Americano is governed by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). The School complies with the features and official programs that SEP establishes for Pre-school, Elementary, Junior High and Senior High education.
The school is evaluated every year by SEP. In the 2009-2010 school year, both Colegio Americano’s Elementary and Junior High Schools were awarded the Recognition of Excellence; and its Senior High was awarded 1st place in Fisico Mathematico and 3rd place in Economics. In the 2010-2011 term, the school’s Senior High was awarded 1st place in Economics.
Sister School Program
For several years, Colegio Americano has had an ongoing program to develop sister school agreements with top quality American junior and senior high schools. The purpose of these sister school programs is to share academic programs and to develop positive cultural understanding amongst American and Mexican students.
Currently, Colegio Americano has an active sister school program with Sonoran Science Academy in Tucson, Arizona. Sonoran Science Academy focuses on science and mathematics and is rated as one of the top charter schools in the United States. Recently, students from Colegio Americano visited Sonoran Science Academy in Tucson to participate in a weekend field trip to Kartchner Caverns. In turn, Sonoran Science Academy students visited Colegio Americano for a three day Marine Biology Science Camp and other activities. In the future, with the help of Sonoran Science Academy, Colegio Americano hopes to develop a robotics program and other specialized educational opportunities for its students.
In 2011, we are working with the Directors of two schools -- St. Gregory School, a leading college preparatory school in Tucson, US; and Bon Soleil School near Barcelona, Spain -- in hopes of arranging student exchange programs for the upcoming school term.
Universidad Interamericana de Guaymas
As part of our continuing education program, the school has an affiliation with the Universidad Interamericana de Guaymas. Through this university, students from Colegio Americano are able to enroll in a number of specialized courses such as Fashion Design, Autoshop, and Culinary Arts. Upon successful completion, students receive official recognition from the SEP.
Mundo Posible
Mundo Posible (formerly known as Canada Posible) offers exchange programs to students from Colegio Americano and other schools in Guaymas and in the State of Sonora. Many students have taken advantage of the diverse and incredible learning opportunities available in other countries such as Canada, the US, and Spain.
College Board
Students wishing to further their education in a college or university in the US will find everything they need to know at College Board, including detailed information about the SAT tests and specific school requirements. There is also a Puerto Rican and Latin American division of the College Board.
