COMPUTER LAB
Colegio Americano is keeping pace as computers become an integral part of the educational process. In 2006, the school purchased 32 state-of-the-art desktop computers, complete with flat-screen monitors and current software, for student use in the Computer Lab. Students have access to the internet and a number of other online databases.
All Elementary Junior High and Senior High students have weekly classes in technology.
The lower grades become familiar with a computer, keyboard and mouse and start using some simple programs. Young students also start learning about the internet and visit websites that complement topics that they are learning about in their other classes.
As students become more proficient with the computer, we focus on improving typing speed and accuracy. We focus on the hardware components of the computer and begin exploring other software programs. We work our way through the basics in Microsoft Word including highlighting, changing font, size, style, color, spellcheck, word art, clip art, etc. Students then put those skills to use on various projects.
Students in upper grades learn about all aspects of computers, including Flash animation, web and graphic design, creating video clips, web posting, and using the internet for research purposes.
