ADMISSIONS PROCESS
We would like to make admission to Colegio Americano de San Carlos as easy as possible for you and your child. We are always looking for students who would thrive in this educational environment, students who are intellectually curious, well-balanced and eager to learn.
Families interested in beginning the admissions process for their children should pick up an Admissions Package from the office, or call the office and request that a package be sent to them. After submitting the completed forms, an appointment for student/parent interviews and testing may be made. Please note that all students must live with a parent or legal guardian while attending Colegio Americano.
October through December is an ideal time to learn about all that our school’s education offers. Visit our campus, take a tour, meet with our General Director, and request an Admissions Package. We look forward to welcoming you to Colegio Americano’s beautiful campus, answering your questions and getting to know you.
During the selection process, the Admissions Committee takes into account many of the candidate’s qualities. The following are some of our considerations:
Records: Records include report cards and recommendation letters. These records play a significant role in evaluating a candidate’s chance for acceptance. We should know if a student turns in homework on time, cooperates with others, approaches tasks responsibly, uses time wisely and conducts themselves appropriately in a classroom environment.
Academic Diagnostic Admission Test: Applicants for Grades 1 through 9 are required to take an admission test. Testing is administered shortly after registration.
English Proficiency Evaluation: Students entering Grades 10 through 12 are required to complete an English Proficiency evaluation. This helps to determine if a candidate can handle a challenging bilingual curriculum. Applicants have to be at a level that clearly indicates that they can comprehend the written word in literal and abstract fashion and grasp complex quantitative concepts.
School-administered Multiple Intelligence Test: Students who are struggling with their academic program will be required to complete a Multiple Intelligence test. This test helps to identify the student’s dominant learning style. This enables the teacher to determine the most effective teaching methods. The school psychologist shares results of the test with the parents. The test allows parents to assist with their children’s homework and to determine strengths and interests such as musical talents or artistic abilities.
Other considerations: During the school year, enrollment is available for qualified candidates arriving from abroad. A recommendation about admission will be made by the Admissions Committee when all documents have been received, interviews have been conducted, and testing has been completed. You are welcome to contact the office for additional information or to determine if the application folder is complete.
